How do we accelerate hygienic sanitation for women in India?

Gender equality is more than a goal. It is necessary for meeting the challenge of reducing poverty, promoting sustainable development & building good governance. Women & children bear the brunt of lack of toilets and sanitation facilities. They have to walk to remote locations outside the village which makes them vulnerable to crime & assault.

Did you know 40% of Indian population lack access to basic sanitation and defecate in the open? 23% of girls drop out of school when they hit puberty. Due to the shame and fear connected with open defecation, women have begun to restrict their food and water intake for hours resulting in health and stamina.
